Comment FAQ

We work hard at making sure the writing on this site is amusing, interesting and grammatically correct. Please do the same.

Who can leave comments on these sites?

Anyone who can write a clever, witty, amusing or interesting comment. You can leave comments here. The comment system is approval-based, and depends on the quality of your contribution.

Where do I start?

You don't need to register to comment (but you can register here if you prefer). You can use our comment-via-email feature. Just enter your comment on the board here, and your assigned username will contain the first part of your email address (joe.smith@gmail.com will result in the username joe.smith or joe.smith01). Remember to use an address that does not reference your identity if you wish to remain anonymous.

You will receive an e-mail with a link to confirm your address. We will then need to approve your comment before displaying it on the board.

Once your comment is approved your username and password will be activated and will be sent to you. You can then comment any time by logging in (no need to confirm your e-mail address anymore). Your comments will be approved within a few hours (unless you write something not nice, see below) so do come back to check.

Can I comment anonymously?

Absolutely. We won't know who you are. To preserve your anonymity, use a stealth Gmail, Yahoo Mail, or Hotmail account.

What comments are approved?

We only approve the comments we like - so make sure you're adding something of quality to the post. Stay on-topic and seek to further the conversation.

If we approve your comment, your username and password will be activated and you'll be able to login and comment freely from then on (or at least until you get banned).

Can I be banned from commenting?

Yes, if your comments are self-promotional, obnoxious, highly offensive, spam, or even worse, boring.

What does it mean if my account is banned?

Your commenting has been disabled. Please see our community policy below. Appeals will be heard - sending an explanatory email is your best recourse.

What is the community policy?

We reserve the right to moderate the discussion. The basic rules are standard: An attack on authors or other commenters is unlikely to make you popular. Think before you disparage social or ethnic groups. Don't spam. Don't post pornography or copyrighted imagery. Stay on topic.

That said, the community policy of London Festival Fringe is forgiving. If your criticism is articulate, it will likely get through. What do we mean by articulate? Support your point with argument, facts and citations. Good grammar and spelling also help.

Do you have any tips on commenting?

We value intelligent contributions, respect for community etiquette, good grammar, and not feeding the trolls. Proper use of punctuation, capitalization and time taken in typing will earn you extra points. Ignoring any of the above will subtract considerably. "Firsts!", "yays" and "nays" will be summarily ignored.

Why isn't my comment showing up?

If a comment from a new account isn't displayed on the site, it's still awaiting approval which shouldn't take more than a few hours. Keep contributing quality commentary. There's no need to submit the same comment multiple times or report this as a bug.

How do I retrieve a lost password?

You can only get your password sent to you if you entered an email address on sign-up. If so, click the "login" link at the top of the page, then "forgot password?" Enter the associated email and hit "Submit."
