Michael Cera is not a Diva, and other things we learned from the Arrested Development reunion

Oct 05
Arrested Development may have had a short run, but the American cult classic still has a rabid fan base. Fans of the show have been teased by promises of an Arrested Development film since the show went off the air in 2005, so the New Yorker Festival’s Bluth Family Reunion last weekend was met with great anticipation. Besides being as funny as ever, the cast members, along with the show’s creator Mitchell Hurwitz, let a few AD secrets slip.

First of all, Hurwitz takes credit for the rumour that Michael Cera (George Michael Bluth) was the only person stopping the AD film from getting made. ‘I kind of was perpetuating this little thing, like, “Wouldn’t it be funny if Michael Cera was the holdout? Let’s put that out there,”’ Hurwitz said. “It really turned ugly very quickly, [but] Michael’s always been game.’

We learned that Jeffrey Tambor (George Bluth Sr.) was not supposed to be a regular cast member; he became a regular after falling in love with the show while filming the pilot. We also learned that Jessica Walter (Lucille Bluth) may have the loudest laugh in show business, and that the show’s stars still remember their respective chicken dances. Best of all, we learned that the AD movie is finally close to production, and filming may start as early as next summer.
