The Independent : “Scottish artist Robert Montgomery goes about at night illegally plastering over advertisements with posters covered in his poetry. His very pleasing verse is presented in white typography on a black background, screaming out ideas about beauty, consumerism and hypocrisy, among other things. The elegant words, and their sparse presentation, have been appearing on hoardings for the last ten years.”
Words in the City at Night has been Robert’s fly-by-night project since 2005; he plasters his black and white musings across advertising billboards in the darkness and instead of the supplanted media, new comment on life today faces commuters in the morning rush.
Robert now lives in London but received his first class honours degree in painting and an MFA at Edinburgh College of Art. He has exhibited in Glasgow, Edinburgh, New York and London, and his work is held in the permanent collection at the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, Texas.
