London Book Award Nomination Joanna Hodgkin: 'In this account of her mother Nancy's first marriage to novelist and travel writer Lawrence Durrell, Joanna Hodgkin is mindful enough of a history that places wives on the margins. This is not just a memoir of her mother. This is the history of a literary wife. On both counts, Hodgkin succeeds beautifully.'

The Independent:"In this account of her mother Nancy's first marriage to novelist and travel writer Lawrence Durrell, Joanna Hodgkin is mindful enough of a history that places wives on the margins. This is not just a memoir of her mother. This is the history of a literary wife.
On both counts, Hodgkin succeeds beautifully."
Joanna Hodgkin is also known by her married name, Hines, but in order to avoid confusion for fans of her psychological thriller novels, she has switched back to her maiden name for this nostalgic work of non-fiction. Having lived on somewhat of a writer’s idyll, Lizard Island in Cornwall, Joanna has now returned ‘home ‘ to London, and is a church warden at St James’ in Piccadilly. She pens a monthly short crime review for the Guardian, and also writes for Literary Review. In addition to reviewing and her own writing work, Joanna mentors young writers and will be supporting those about to take part in the Escalator scheme at the Writer’s Centre in Norwich.
