The Guardian Review: “This is Lee at his most self-referential and meta-textual, if not always his most exciting. It's not just his own jokes he deconstructs tonight, but the impulse behind the show, his career, his self. ‘I don't know who I am anymore,’ he says – and, with a persona composed of these many subversions and quadruple bluffs, that's hardly surprising. Not that a strong personality doesn't come across. More bilious than ever, Lee gripes at his fellow comics, at his fair-weather new audience... [He] demonstrates that an uneventful life need be no barrier to provocative comedy.”
The Times have referred to Lee as “The Comedian’s Comedian”. And even apart from his stand-up achievements, the Solihull-raised Oxford graduate has so far enjoyed a fruitful and diverse career, including the direction and co-writing of Jerry Springer – The Opera, musical journalism for The Sunday Times and Resonance FM, and authoring of several books. Lee is married to a fellow comedic/artistic polymath, Bridget Christie.
