London Comedy Award Nomination Tim Key: 'You may not be surprised to hear that he took part in the Cambridge footlights. You may be more surprised to hear that he did so by blagging a fake PhD at said University, having received his higher education in fact, at Sheffield. So, he’s got cojones. His current show Masterslut, involves an onstage bubble bath, interjections of film, poetic verses written on the back of porno cards, and a recipe for a good raspberry tart.'

Evening Standard: “Tim Key is the antithesis of the identikit observational comedians one currently sees on television standing on shiny floors telling shiny jokes. He writes oblique poetry, makes short films and sings Russian pop songs. All of these elements appear in his latest show, Masterslut, a more ambitious and impressive project than its verse-heavy predecessor, Slutcracker, which won an Edinburgh Comedy Award in 2009.”

Tim Key is one of those exciting mixed genre types. Both poet and comic, he speaks Russian, has been BAFTA nominated for his film-making, has published three short books, released a record and appeared in TV show Life’s Too Short, as well as recent blockbuster One Day. You may not be surprised to hear that he took part in the Cambridge footlights. You may be more surprised to hear that he did so by blagging a fake PhD at said University, having received his higher education in fact, at Sheffield. So, he’s got cojones. His current show Masterslut, involves an onstage bubble bath, interjections of film, poetic verses written on the back of porno cards, and a recipe for a good raspberry tart.  If anyone deserves his nomination for the Malcolm Hardee Award for Comic Originality, it’s Key.
