London Dance Award Nomination Cathy Waller: '.. currently resident choreographer with the critically acclaimed Dance Offensive in Cambridgeshire… Contemporary Dance and Hip Hop are juxtaposed and integrated in Cathy’s choreography.'

Cathy Waller has been announced as the winner of the Blueprint Bursary, an annual award singling out one choreographer with exceptional promise, and providing them with a year of guidance from premier dance organisations, East London Dance, and Sadler’s Wells.

Cathy is currently resident choreographer with the critically acclaimed Dance Offensive, based in Cambridgeshire. Prior to that, she toured the UK with her own company Surge Dance Theatre. A large section of Cathy’s work focuses on education and rehabilitation; having worked with young offenders for over three years, she uses Hip Hop as a healthy and productive outlet for creativity. Cathy trained in gymnastics, classical dance, and dance theatre so it’s not surprising that her work draws on a number of creative sources. Contemporary Dance and Hip Hop are juxtaposed and integrated in Cathy’s choreographed creations, and 2012 will now afford her the opportunity to work with live musicians and a wealth of dance know-how as a consequence of the Blueprint Bursary. However, having already performed at the Hammersmith Apollo, Sadler’s Wells, and Wembley, she’s not too short on impressive experience herself.
