The Independent: “a fizzing tale of love, gender politics, lost daughters and heroic librarians. The music and dancing are superb: everything in this show has wit, heart and magnificent energy... Prince, clearly disturbed by the strand of macho misogyny in hip-hop, creates a brilliant parody of it here. The men's crotch-grabbing swagger is a hairsbreadth away from the real thing – undercut by the way the two women pick up the attitudes, trying out straddle stances and aggression.
Kate Prince directed, co-wrote and co-choreographed the 5 star production, Some Like it Hip Hop from her company ZooNation at the end of last year following West End hit Into The Hoods in 2008. Kate is also Associate Artist at Sadler’s Wells and has choreographed extensively for TV and film, including So You Think You Can Dance and StreetDance 3D. Kate holds an MA in General Arts from Edinburgh University. Kate took inspiration from Marilyn movie Some Like It Hot and Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night for her last project, injecting theatricality into the Hip Hop medium. Talking to the Guardian Kate reveals some of her method, “I say to my dancers: "How does your character feel at this moment? Dance as you feel."
