The Guardian on Live Fire Exercise: “In some ways, McGregor's choreography is the most classical he has ever created, but it is classicism under duress: pirouettes and attitudes are wrenched off balance; legs shoot out with deadly force. Throughout this emotional and physical trauma, the six dancers – all of them astonishing – strive to maintain balance. If McGregor's choreography is a metaphor for violence and injury, it is also about the heroic human impulse to survive.”
This year has been an excellent one for Wayne McGregor CBE; with his most recent collaborative hit Undance receiving rave reviews, following on from another hugely successful venture Live Fire Exercise at the Royal Opera House in May. The CBE is also a recent addition, as McGregor was part of the January 2011 honours list. He has received countless awards and nominations and has run his own company, Wayne McGregor │ Random Dance since 1992, and in 2006 was appointed resident choreographer of the Royal Ballet. The acclaimed choreographer was forever immortalised in one of the final UK South Bank Show arts documentary series in 2009, and will be the subject of Arte TV’s upcoming documentary Wayne McGregor – Going Somewhere.
