Dec 12
The Estonian exhibition Moments of Reprieve: “Birkin’s work explores the language of loss in both the private and political domains. Alongside his studio practice, he maintains a critical writing practice that examines issues related to ethics and aesthetics, such as the representation of suffering and the consumption of images of war. His series Embedded (2011) focuses on the production and dissemination of photographs taken in times of conflict that have become the subject of censorship or authorship controversy.”

This Year, Birkin has graduated with an MA from the Slade School of Fine Arts, and exhibited in the Saatchi Gallery as part of New Sensations. In 2010 he received the Sovereign Art Prize and a bursary from the National Media Museum. The son of actress Jane Birkin and writer/director Andrew Birkin, he studied Anthropology at Oxford University and has also enjoyed success as an actor for the National Theatre and the Peter Hall Theatre Company as well as numerous film and television credits, including Charlotte Gray starring Cate Blanchett.
