The Independent: “Treherne, who was born partially deaf and has limited vision, discovered in his late teens that his eyesight would gradually deteriorate. His response was to pick up a camera and to use it to document everyday spaces. His photographs are compelling sepia glimpses of urban wastelands, cityscapes and nature.”

In an interview with the BBC, Ian explains his choice of art form, "I like to show people who take their eyesight for granted the simple views they walk past every day and do not notice."

Ian is an Essex photographer with Usher Syndrome, so that his eyesight is deteriorating and his hearing is also affected. A man of remarkable resilience, Ian takes photos of everyday buildings and scenes, finding beauty in the banal. Treherne suffers from tunnel vision and demonstrates true ambition and passion in his work despite the condition and possibly because of it. The photographer hopes his work will spur those with similar conditions on to great things, "I see less than most people, but I think in some ways it actually makes me see more in life.”
